Covering 2,500 km˛, the mounts Cantal are what remains of the biggest volcano in Europe. The highest peak in the area is the Plomb de Cantal, at 1,855 metres. It is the location of the Auvergne's largest ski resort, Super-Lorian, between 1,250 and 1,850 metres altitude.

Also located in the volcanic massif of the mounts Cantal, the Puy Mary reaches a height of 1,758 metres and dominates majestically twelve beautiful glacier valleys. The views are breathtaking! There are plenty of walking trails there. But this site regrettably suffers from a large influx of tourists. It is indeed one of the most visited places in Auvergne.
