Le Pin National Stud, located in the district of Le Pin-au-Haras, in a lush green setting spanning over 1,000 hectares, is known as the Versailles of the Horse and is the oldest and most prestigious of France's national studs. Founded in 1715 on the initiative of King Louis XIV, Le Pin National Stud is famous for its horse breeding excellence as well as hosting a number of international horse competitions and events. The supremely elegant estate, which comprises a 17th-century château, main courtyard and stables laid out in a horseshoe shape, is home to no fewer than 10 horse breeds for reproduction, from English thoroughbreds and Percherons to French trotters.
An exhibition in stable no. 1 explores the world of the horse through interactive terminals, films and optical theatre.
Must-see event: Les Jeudis du Pin, equestrian shows that take place every Thursday at 3pm from June to September in the main courtyard, with parades of stallions and horse-drawn carriages.
