Open to the public in 2000, the Pic du Midi was classified in 2003 as a natural national under the beauty of its landscape. It is indeed in this magical place that for nearly 140 years, researchers and technicians of space observe, photograph and decode the sky and all its planets most distant galaxies. The secrets and the wonderment facing the panorama of scientific, once reserved for a privileged few, are now accessible to all. The situation in front of the stage before the Pyrenees and the altitude at nearly 3,000 m, the Pic du Midi are a great tourist lookout. From the top, you can discover and embrace the whole of the Pyrenees, Catalonia to the Basque Country. From east to west, the horizon opens with over 300 km of mountains. From the big terrace of 750 sqm, the eye plunges north across the plain to the southwest foothills of the Massif Central. Orientation tables show the main peaks that can be admired in this giant panorama.

Built in 1908, the dome Baillaud is the center of the museum area the highest in Europe. To share the magic of the site at sunset and see the sky, the Pic du Midi organizes parties public. Accompanied by an expert in astronomy, it is also possible to spend an unforgettable night to watch and study the stars with the naked eye, and through a telescope 500 mm in the center of the dome Charvin.
