Inhabited by the Chabannes family since 1430, the superb castle of La Palice towers majestically over the Besbre Valley and the roofs of the town of Lapalisse. Once you step through the entrance gate of the estate, you will be delighted to discover the elegant facade of the castle and its court of honour. From left to right you can see: the Gothic chapel built in the 15th century, with a crypt containing the tombs of the Chabannes, the pink brick Renaissance wing built in the 16th century, and the feudal part with towers and curtains, built between the 11th and the 13th centuries.
Inside the castle, the golden drawing room and its splendid ceiling with Renaissance caissons, opulent old tapestries, and the main drawing room, library and chapel, are among the attractions to admire during the guided tour.
A beautiful shady park, dotted with ponds and hundred-year-old trees, is a pleasant way to round off your sightseeing tour.
