Known for its famous blue monochrome patterns, Nevers earthenware, an ancestral tradition dating back to the end of the 16th century, made the Nivernais capital famous and prosperous in the 17th and 18th centuries. Nowadays, this artistic craft is kept alive by the master earthenware-makers of Nevers. They apply their skill to offer superb creations to lovers of ceramics, both traditional and more contemporary. In the summer period, several Nivernais earthenware workshops offer guided tours where you can discover the different stages of the earthenware-making process...from shaping to firing, through enamelling and decoration.
Also don't miss the Frédéric Blandin Municipal Museum, based in the old Notre-Dame Abbey, which has a remarkable collection of Nevers earthenware from the 16th to the 20th century!
