The towns of Alençon and Argentan owe their fame to the refined and delicate needlepoint lace made there by hand using a needle and linen thread since the 17th century. Visitors can find out all about this exceptional know-how in several museums, including the lace museum in Argentan (Maison des Dentelles et du Point d'Argentan), and the fine art and lace museum (Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle) and Alençon lace museum (Musée de la Dentelle "Au point d'Alençon"), both in Alençon. Lace fans will be bowled over by their absolutely stunning collector's pieces!
The National Lacemaking Workshop (Atelier National du Point d'Alençon), not open to the public, keeps this unique lacemaking tradition alive.
