Important industrial and economic area, Mulhouse is famous for its technical museums. Fans of beautiful cars will be in heaven. The internationally renowned Automobile national museum - Schlumpf Collection - has 500 prestigious cars on display.
Other cultural venues illustrate industrial development over the years: the French Railway Museum owns a large collection of railway machinery such as steam and electric engines and carriages, the Fabric Printing Museum retraces the history of printed cotton, the EDF Electropolis Museum is dedicated to the history and provision of electricity, while the Wallpaper Museum has a comprehensive collection on display.
The Reunion square, historic heart of the city, forms a harmonious architectural whole with its Rhenish Renaissance town hall in different shades of pink, period houses, fountain and Neo-Gothic Saint-Etienne temple with 14th-century stained glass windows. Leading off this square are also numerous pedestrian shopping streets.
