The high city of Montreuil-sur-Mer is encircled by ramparts and kept old residences. The citadel, inside the fortifications of the high city, was built on a former royal castle and was then refreshed by Vauban. This place was a source of inspiration for Victor Hugo's work, the famous French writer.
