The upper town of Montreuil is encircled by ramparts and has preserved old houses. The citadel, inside the fortifications of the upper town, was built on the site of a former royal castle and was then modified by Vauban. This place was a source of inspiration for Victor Hugo, the famous French writer. Today, the town puts on a sound and light show in the citadel each summer, immersing the audience into the world of Les Misérables.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Do not miss the street Clape-en-Bas, picturesque cobbled street with houses built atypical old cob. These houses are now shops, occupied by artisans of Murano glass spinner to the torch, glass engraver. Demonstrations of skills on site, in the afternoon.

Down the street you can see the chapel of the orphanage (sandstone, chalk).
