Overhanging the Thouet valley, the Montreuil-Bellay castle combines the medieval style (barbican, moats, ramparts, towers and rampart walk) with the Renaissance (canons' lodge and new castle). Inside the fortress, visitors can explore the furnished rooms and medieval kitchen with central hearth, while outside the gardens are a lovely place for a wander.
