The town of Montmorency stands on top of a hill on the edge of a forest overlooking the Pays de France (Plaine de France) area, Montmorency valley and Paris. Its countryside setting, peaceful atmosphere and beautiful houses make it a popular destination.
The must-see Flamboyant Gothic Saint-Martin collegiate church boasts magnificent stained-glass windows, the oldest of which date back to the 16th century.
Another key sight in the town is the Jean-Jacques Rousseau museum, which occupies the house where the famous philosopher and writer lived from 1757 to 1762. It recreates Rousseau's living environment through documents, manuscripts and objets d'art. A small pavilion, known as the donjon (keep), at the end of the garden houses his study.
