Peaking in 4,810 metres, the Mont Blanc mountain range is the perfect place to admire fantastic high mountain landscapes, with its glaciers, its peaks and its snowy summits. In August 1786, the guide Jacques Balmat and the doctor Michel Gabriel Paccard reached the summit of Mont Blanc for the first time. Very popular with skiers, walkers and mountaineering enthusiasts, the Mont-Blanc mountain range appeals to less sporty types too. Many of the mountain range's famous sites are accessible by train or cable car. A cable car departing from Chamonix takes you to the Aiguille du Midi, at an altitude of 3,842 m, in only 20 minutes. From this site, the panoramic view of Mont Blanc and its massif is exceptional.
The Montenvers train takes you to the famous Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice), an impressive 7-km long glacier.
Then, departing from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, the Mont Blanc tramway, a small train taking passengers up to the Nid d'Aigle (2,372 m), offers spectacular and unforgettable scenery throughout the journey.
