The Mirabelle plumThe Mirabelle plumGuide of the Meurthe-et-MoselleGuide of the Meurthe-et-MoselleTravel Guide > France > Lorraine > Meurthe-et-Moselle > The Mirabelle plumThe origin of Mirabelle plum remains a mystery: introduced by Saint Nicolas according to the legend, imported by the Romanesque during their Gallic occupation for certain historians, by the Duke of Anjou in the 15th century, and by René II for the others. Anyway, Lorraine has more than 10,000 hectares of orchards and produces annually 40,000 tonnes of cherry plums, of which more than half comes from the Meurthe-et-Moselle. The Mirabelle plum can be cooked in numerous manners: in tart and in jam above all, but also in compotes, gratins, fritters, in syrup, candied and in fruit jelly. Without forgetting naturally the famous brandy, which recovers from an ancestral know-how.
