In the Artois region and the Béthunois region, the former mining activities shaped original landscapes. A circuit, going through the city of Lens and mining cities, such as Marles-les-Mines, Auchel, and Bruay-la-Buissière, allows to discover various types of mining environments: miners' terraced houses, bars, suburban cities and garden cities. Near Lens, the School and the Mine museum depicts the minors' world. The visit of the Lewarde Mining Historic Centre cannot be missed since it is the biggest mine museum in France. The mineral field also offers unique landscapes with its coal tips, schist mountains situated near the former coal shafts. These coal tips are now places for strolls or centres for sports and leisure activities, such as Loisinord and Noeux-les-Mines where skiing is possible!
