A permanent feature of the Flanders landscape are Nord windmills. Fine examples of these remarkable pieces of rural heritage are the Noordmeulen windmill in Hondschoote, Casteelmeulen in Cassel, Steenmeulen in Terdeghem and those in Steenvoorde.

Rosmeulen (mill on horseback) to Volckerinckhove: The real grist mill, equipped with a pair of wheels and powered by a horse, is unique in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The building of 16 m² has been built Volckerinckhove (2009-2010) by Houck Yser association with old materials: bricks of the eighteenth, elm frame, left-handed and right-wing Flemish failures, all the mechanics was conducted by Eric oak Vanleene, carpenter mills in Belgium. These mills were once numerous in Flanders and accompanied the windmills they replaced when the weather was not favorable.
