The disappearance of ice 12,000 years ago entailed the formation of washbasins. But the plateau as we know it today has been shaped by hand. Indeed, the monks and the farmers created these ponds from the 11th century. These water plans constituted an important resource for the region. Today, these private ponds are essentially used for fishing and for leisure activities.
