With a surface area of 135,000 hectares, the Massif des Maures mountains extends from Saint-Raphaël to Hyères. It reaches its peak at an altitude of 780 metres near the Notre-Dame-des-Anges priory. From this place, the view of the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. The vegetation of the Maures mountain range mainly consists of chestnut and cork oak forests, maquis (dense Mediterranean shrubland) and maritime pines. Between Le Lavandou and the Saint-Tropez peninsula, the 'Corniche des Maures' is a magnificent road running alongside the sea, dotted with pleasant seaside resorts, such as Cavalière, Le Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer ou encore Cavalaire-sur-Mer.

Rich in chestnut trees, the Massif des Maures mountains is famous for its specialities based on chestnuts, such as candied chestnuts and chestnut jam. Head to Collobrières, the main village in the Maures mountains, to find excellent candied chestnuts. A sweet chestnut festival is held there every year in October.
