Tucked away in the former province of Hurepoix, in the commune of Le Val-Saint-Germain, Le Marais Castle is a remarkable example of the Louis XVI style. This beautiful building, built at the end of the 18th century by the architect Barré, is topped with a square dome and adorned with an Italian-style peristyle. Moats remain from the former castle fort that once stood on this site, as well as a tower, now converted into a dovecote. In the 17th-century service quarters is a museum about the history of the residence and its famous occupants, Talleyrand and Chateaubriand.
Around the castle, a beautiful 40-hectare park is ideal for a leisurely stroll. A 550-metre long water mirror reflecting the western façade of the castle, a French-style garden, cave, orchard and floral garden are some of the attractions you can admire on your walk.
Art exhibitions are regularly held at the castle windmill.
