Located on the River Seine, the Château de Maisons-Laffitte was built in the 17th century by the architect François Mansart to receive King Louis XIV after hunting, and is a remarkable example of Classical art. The interior is open to the public and contains fine wooden panelling, tapestries, paintings and antique furniture, as well as a permanent exhibition devoted to racehorses and the history of horseracing in France.
Apart from this elegant stately home, the town of Maisons-Laffitte is also famous for its racecourse and its racehorse training centre.
An evening festival of classical music and jazz, Les Nuits Musicales, takes place there every March.
