Surrounding the picturesque village of Lyons-la-Forêt, the state-owned forest of Lyons is a vast forest massif covering 10,700 hectares. The group of tall trees is famous for being one of the most beautiful beech groves in France.

Dotted with many paths and trails, this verdant area is great for rest and rejuvenation, and is also a choice location for hiking, riding and mountain biking.

Ideal for a family outing, Bordins Arboretum has over 13,000 trees and shrubs in its 8 hectares, with around 90 species from different continents represented there! Discover the treasures of the forest environment on a 3.7 k trail.

When it comes to built heritage, at the heart of the beech grove in the commune of Lisors stand the remains of an old Cistercian abbey, Mortemer Abbey, founded in the 12th century by the King of England, Henry I Beauclerc. Visit the abbey and discover the big 17th-century dwelling, the ruins of the abbey church and the chapter house, the north gallery of the cloister and the dovecote. Also see its museum of monastic life, with its scenographic trail about the ghosts and legends of the abbey and the region!

Another must-see site is Fleury-la-Forêt Castle, from the 17th century, with its beautiful furnished rooms, remarkable kitchen, collection of old dolls and French-style park.
