The biggest building in Paris is the former palace of the kings of France. For two centuries, this palace has housed the famous Louvre museum. Known all over the world, this museum contains an important art collection. This prestigious collection is divided into seven departments: Egyptian Antiquities; Oriental Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan and Romanesque Antiquities; and Sculpture, Objets d'Art, Painting and Graphic Arts from the Middle Ages to 1850. New rooms are dedicated to Italian and Spanish painting, as well as to the arts of Africa, Oceania, Asia and the Americas. Famous paintings are on show, including Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. At the museum entrance stands the glass pyramid designed by Chinese architect Ieoh Ming Pei.
