Rebuilt after the war, the town of Lorient's architecture dates from the 1950s. It is the number two fishing port in France. An oceanography centre on board a ship called Thalassa moored in the port is open to the public.
The Lorient InterCeltic festival takes place every year in August. This major event is dedicated to the music of the Celtic countries.
