Dominated by the outline of the Logis Royal castle and its Agnès Sorel tower, the medieval citadel of Loches boasts a beautiful architectural heritage on the edge of the Indre River. The Logis Royal is an outstanding example of Renaissance architecture. Its history was marked by three women: Joan of Arc, Agnès Sorel and Anne of Brittany. After visiting the castle, a walk around this Town of Art and History is essential – to see the Romanesque collegiate church where Agnès Sorel's grave is, various fortified gates, the Renaissance town hall, the 36-m high Romanesque keep, the Maison Lansyer where numerous works by the painter Emmanuel Lansyer are on display, the shopping streets and all the old houses.
