It is at Alise-Sainte-Reine that was discovered a Gallo-Roman site Alésia. 52 years BC, this site was the place where the battle between Julius Ceasar and Vercingétorix took place. Lengthy archaeological searches uncovered a Gallo-Roman city at the top of the plateau. A wealth of remains were unearthed such as a basilica, theatre, temple, forum, houses and whole districts. The museum displays the most beautiful objects discovered on the site. On the hill dominating the village of Alise-Sainte-Reine, an impressive statue of Vercingétorix was erected at the request of the emperor Napoleon III. | LOCALISATION IN CÔTE-D'OR | | | |
