The Invalides hospital was built during the reign of King Louis XIV to look after old and invalided soldiers. This complex of buildings includes the Hôtel des Invalides, and two churches, the Eglise du Dôme and the Eglise Saint-Louis, under its dome, which is covered with over 555,000 gold leaves!
The tomb of the Emperor Napoleon I is under the dome.
