Reaching 750 metres at its highest point, the hilltop Haut-Koenigsbourg castle, in Orschwiller, towers majestically over the Wine Trail and the Alsace plain. This impressive fortress, built in the 12th century, was destroyed and rebuilt several times. The current state of the castle dates from the restoration of the beginning of the 20th century. This imposing building still kept its appearance of medieval fortified castle with its double surrounding wall, its keep, its bastions and its main courtyard.
