The Grave headland offers a view of the biggest estuary in Europe, the Gironde estuary, as well as of Royan, a well-known seaside resort on the Charente-Maritime coast. It is off the Grave headland, in the Gironde estuary, that is the oldest lighthouse in France, the famous Cordouan lighthouse built on a rocky island.
