Founded in 1995, the Regional Natural Park of Grands Causses, located northeast of the Midi-Pyrenees, south of the department of Aveyron, covers 315 640 hectares spread over 94 municipalities with a population of about 65 000 inhabitants. This mountainous area is under contrasting climatic influences and offers an infinite variety of landscapes, rich fauna and flora of nearly 2000 species.

Its territory consists of six entities:

The Causse de Severac.

The Causse du Larzac, the largest and most southerly of all the Causses, altitude from 600 to 900 meters, the highest point of the Puech Cougouille to 912 m.

The Black Causse, between Valley and Valley Dourbie Jonte.

The Red and the Millau Causse, between the valleys of the Tarn in the south, the north and the Muse Lumensonesque east.

The Lévézou Raspes and the Tarn.

The Holy Affricain, the country of Roquefort, Rougier Camarès.

These Causses, interspersed with deep valleys to the vast arid plains, rocks ruiniform are the kingdom of the sheep whose milk is used in the development of Roquefort cheese.

In June 2011, the Causses and Cévennes enter the classification of UNESCO. 22 Public Park located in this area get this prestigious label and are now part of world heritage of mankind.
