Standing at the edge of Gers, at the heart of Lomagne, Gramont Castle towers over a charming little village full of stone houses. Once the property of Simon de Montfort, leader of the crusade against the Albigensians, this elegant residence is now run by the centre for national monuments. Reminders of its past include a fortified mediaeval tower, a gatehouse in the Gothic style, and a Renaissance wing with mullioned windows. Inside is a range of art objects and period furniture.
A French-style garden and beautiful views over the hills of Lomagne complete the tour.
The summer calendar includes a music festival and exhibitions.
