This viaduct, near Ruynes-en-Margeride, was built in the 19th century by Eiffel and Boyer in order to cross the Truyère gorges, which are 125 metres high and 564 metres wide. The only means to reach the other side was to build a metal bridge with a single parabolic arch that could resist bad weather and the weight of trains.
