Present in almost all the Haute-Saône villages, these structures are generally decorated with flowers and very well maintained. Built around natural water sources, they are sometimes quite simple, sometimes very grandiose. Fountain-lavoirs represent one of the 19th century's key concerns, which was to bring water to the heart of the village to meet the needs of the inhabitants and farms.
A variety of architecture is found: covered, arcaded lavoirs like in Ray-sur-Saône, uncovered fountains like in Fondremand, temples to ancient architecture like in Etuz and circular, uncovered fountains like in Champlitte.
