Located in-between the départements of the Loire and the Puy-de-Dôme, the Forez mountains offer walkers a multitude of meadows, fir and beech forests, and high plateaux - the Hautes Chaumes - covered with moors and heather. This granite mountain range reaches its peak in Pierre-sur-Haute at 1,634 metres high.

On the Forez plain situated below, there is a beautiful view of the Forez mountains outlined against the horizon.

To be visited: the Forez mountain heritage museum in Usson-en-Forez.
