Fontgombault abbey, founded in the 11th century, nestles in a lush, green setting at the edge of the Creuse river and is home to a community of Benedictine monks. Its impressive abbey church is a wonderful example of Romanesque architecture and boasts a magnificent chevet with five apsidioles and a round-arched portal.
Pottery made by the monks is sold in the shop adjoining the church.
