Founded in the 12th and steered by abbesses until the 18th century, the Fontevraud abbey, royal cemetery of Plantagenêts, used to be the most powerful monastic place of the whole France. Today, the royal abbey is a cultural centre offering to discover the Romanesque abbey church of the 12th century sheltering the recumbent effigies of Plantagenêts, the Grand-Moûtier cloister, the chapter house, the refectory and the remarkable Romanesque kitchens.

Fontevraud regularly hosts concerts, conferences and exhibitions.
