Évry, the capital of Essonne, has a contemporary architectural style, with its town centre and central square, where brick is everywhere. Place des Droits de l'Homme is adorned with fountains and is surrounded by beautiful modern buildings, like the cathedral, town hall and chamber of commerce and industry.
All clad in brick, St. Corbinian Cathedral of the Resurrection is the only cathedral in France built in the 20th century. Made by the Swiss architect Mario Botta, this unusual circular building also features a triangular roof crowned with twenty-four silver lime trees! Inside, the light-filled nave measuring twenty-nine metres in diameter, along with the chancel adorned with a white Carrara marble altar and a modern stained glass window symbolising a tree, will be admired by lovers of contemporary architecture.
