Home town of Aline Charigot, the wife of the famous painter Auguste Renoir, Essoyes and its surrounding countryside were a real source of inspiration for the artist.

All around the village, the "Chemins de Renoir" are marked out circuits allowing the walker to follow in the painter's steps. Auguste Renoir and his family are buried in the cemetery of Essoyes.
