This sweet, slightly peppery-tasting chilli pepper is grown only in Espelette, a small village in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. In the Basque Country, it is often used to replace pepper and is the ideal spice for tomato-based dishes. The Espelette pepper is the star of an annual festival in Espelette every last weekend of October.
