Capital of Burgundy, Dijon is also the former capital of the Dukes of Burgundy. This luxurious period explains the magnificent architecture of the city. Dijon indeed is home to beautiful buildings and mansions but also a number of half-timbered houses. The palace of the Dukes and the States of Burgundy dominated by the Philippe le Bon tower hosts today the Museum of Fine Arts as well as the Town hall. Arcades and numerous pedestrian streets lined with shops and fine food stores are pleasant and really great for shopping. A covered hall is home to a lively market. For a break, the city has numerous parks and gardens such as Darcy garden and the botanical garden.
