This tradition dates from the 18th century when the first earthenware factory was set up. Famous for the talent of its master potters, the town of Desvres is also recognised for the reproduction of antique and famous decorations. The city's many decorations, such as earthenware shop and street signs, bear testimony to this speciality. The Maison de la Faïence (earthenware house), a modern building decorated in blue and white tiles, presents Desvres designs and the history of earthenware.
