The Departmental Domain of Chamarande, a listed Historic Monument owned by the General Council of Essonne, combines architecture, nature and culture, with its Louis XIII-style castle, 98-hectare landscaped park and contemporary art centre.
Chamarande Castle, surrounded by moats and topped with a Mansard roof, is an elegant 18th-century building made of a mix of brick, stone and slate. Since 1999 its service quarters have contained the Essonne Departmental Archives.
The contemporary art centre, whose main aim is to promote living heritage, offers exhibitions in the castle, orangery and park all year round.
Chamarande Park, a certified Remarkable Garden with plants, follies and water features, is ideal for a leisurely stroll. Its peaceful pathways and shady areas make it a perfect place for relaxing and walking.
From May to October, the domain hosts a rich programme of cultural events, with music and dance shows, outdoor cinema screenings, creative workshops and conferences.
