Situated in Dampierre-en-Yvelines in the Chevreuse valley, the Dampierre castle was built in the 17th century by the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart for the duke of Chevreuse. Property of the family De Luynes since 1663, this elegant brick and stone building surrounded by moats is a beautiful example of classic style. The inside offers series of art objects and woodworks, as well as a painted mural of Ingres representing the Golden age. Created by the famous landscape designer Le Nôtre, the vast and very romantic park of the castle is a lovely place for a walk. |
