The Sancerre region, and more especially the village of Chavignol, is renowned for its excellent full-fat goat's cheese. Carrying the AOC quality label, the crottin de Chavignol can be eaten at various stages of maturing, according to taste: medium dry, bluish, blue or very dry. Very popular after a meal and with a glass of Sancerre wine, the crottin de Chavignol can be eaten warm served with a salad and can also be used in numerous culinary recipes.
For lovers of this delicious small cheese, a Crottin de Chavignol festival is organised in Sancerre during the weekend closest to May 1st.
