City of Art and History, Concarneau is famous for its large and very busy fishing port, very active, and its historic walled town. Built on a rocky island, this fortified town is a former military compound. Its ramparts, dating from the 13th century and restored by Vauban in the 17th century, are flanked with towers. The inside of the fortification, accessible by a small bridge, has pretty narrow streets lined with restaurants and tourist shops. The Fishing museum recounts the history and techniques of marine fishing.
In August, the Filets Bleus festival is an important occasion with music and dancing.
