Former royal residence, the Château de Compiègne was built in the 18th century and is home to royal and imperial apartments, but also the Car and Tourism museum as well as the Second Empire museum. Outside the palace, the Beaux-Monts park and path are not to be missed.
The town hall of Late Gothic style is covered by a belfry, which contains one of the oldest municipal bells in France. Nearby, a Historic Figurine museum exhibits a large number of figurines.
Around the city, the Compiègne forest, a ancient royal forest, extends over 15,000 hectares. A cycle path between Pierrefonds and Compiègne is available for cycling enthusiasts.
