The fortified town of Cologne, a medieval new town founded in 1284, has a picturesque quality with its central square surrounded by typical houses with façades of Toulouse brick and Lomagne stone. In the middle of the square, the superb 14th-century covered market hall, topped with a small steeple, contains a stone grain measure dating from the 15th century.
