80,000 hectares in size, the Cognac vineyards extend over three départements: the Charente, the Charente-Maritime and the Deux-Sèvres.
World-famous, Cognac is a brandy made made from white grape varieties carrying the AOC quality label. The demarcated region is divided into six vineyards: Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois and Bois Ordinaires. Famous as an after-dinner liqueur, Cognac is also frequently used to flavour dishes and desserts.
To find out more about this speciality, the Arts of Cognac museum, housed in the Perrin de Boussac mansion in Cognac, details the history and production of Cognac.
