Founded in 1098 by Abbot Robert de Molesmes, the Abbey of Our Lady of Cîteaux, located in Burgundy in the commune of Saint-Nicolas-lès-Cîteaux, is the birthplace of the Cistercian order. This is where the famous St. Bernard began his monastic life, before becoming the first Abbot of Clairvaux in 1115.
The public can enjoy a slideshow on the lives of monks in Cîteaux today, a guided tour of the historical buildings, and products such as honey sweets and cheese from the abbey.
