Pleasantly situated at the edge of the Vienne river, the old town of Chinon is dominated by its castle, a real fortress endowed with ramparts. A walk in the medieval town allows meeting beautiful houses with wood framings and old residences, such as the Red House, the Bailliage palace and the États généraux town house, which is home to the Old city of Chinon museum. From the old town, a sloping road allows to reach the castle on foot. Above, the view of the city and its surrounding area is magnificent. The inside of the fortress is also worth a visit, especially for its magnificent tapestries collection.
