Opened on the sea, the city of Cherbourg-Octeville is situated north of the Cotentin peninsula and possesses a rich maritime heritage. Created in the 18th century, the Cherbourg-Octeville harbor is the largest artificial harbor in the world. To better discover the harbor and its forts, boat trips are offered to visitors. The city is also boasting several ports: fishing port, marina, commercial harbor and naval base.

Not to be missed, the "Cité de la Mer" (Sea Town) is a vast scientific, touristic and cultural complex dedicated to the maritime world and more particularly to the Ocean and the submarine environment.
