Built on a basalt outcrop overlooking the Couze valley and Chambon lake, the Château de Murol is a medieval fortress complete with keep, rampart walk, fortified gatehouse and towers. Modified over the centuries and bearing traces of the Wars of Religion, this listed historic building described by French writer George Sand in her novel Jean de la Roche is a must-see site for fans of medieval architecture.
