The visit begins up a magnificent avenue lined with plane trees which takes you to two sphinxes and the château entrance. From here, a stroll around the castle estate is a must. Located on the edge of the River Cher, the stunning parterres of the Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici formal gardens offer a stunning view of the castle and its two-floor gallery spanning the water of the Cher. Other attractions include a wooded park, vegetable garden and maze. A tour inside the Renaissance château reveals numerous furnished and exceptionally decorated rooms containing an extraordinary collection of Renaissance furniture and paintings, and antique tapestries. Castle enthusiasts can also admire fantastic bedrooms, including those of King François I, Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de Medici and the Five Queens, as well as the Cabinet Vert (Catherine de Medici's office), Salon de Louis XIV, chapel and the perfectly preserved castle kitchens.

In the summer, evening performances of a sound and light show called "In the Time of the Ladies of Chenonceau", boat trips on the River Cher and evening walks in the gardens are organised for visitors.
